Aricha is a community that we have bought coffees from in the past. And let us tell you, it is good to be supporting them once more. Aricha is a small, remote community in the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia, and is known as one of the oldest coffee growing communities in the world, set in old traditions.

Transported on dirt roads on motorcycle, horse or donkey, the coffee is moved from producer to the nearest collection center which is then transferred by truck to the central collection center in Adorsi. The coffee is then fermented and processed collectively and then organic compost from the coffee is distributed back to the producers evenly. Fermented for 48-72 hours in tanks, the coffee is then dried outside on raised beds for 4-5 days. Coffee is then depulped, washed and milled before being bagged and sent to its final location.

The majority of the producers in the are apart of the Gedeo Culture and speak the Gedeo language. Their lives are pact with traditions of their native culture and this portion of their lives goes into the way they producer their coffees. Yet, due to its location, families in the Aricha community are faced with constant challenges, such as access to clean water, electricity and education. Children work on these farms from a young age and lack opportunities which enroutes the community dynamic as many young adults stay or buy neighboring farms to continue the tradition of coffee producing.

This offerings rocks! Big time! With notes of blueberry, raspberry and white tea, this offering is delicate, clean and complex. We hope you get the chance to indulge in this coffee as we have!
